The Benelli Sei is a series of motorcycles that were produced by Italian manufacturer Benelli, and masterminded by automotive designer Alejandro de Tomaso, from 1973 to 1989. Two models were made, with 750 and 900 cc displacement. The 750 was the first production motorcycle with a six-cylinder engine.

our bike has the following specification. finished in gleaming red and black paintwork with excellent unmarked body work . 6 speed gearbox. chain driven . only 2000 of these 900 sei were built making our benelli an unbelievably rare addition to Benelli’s 900 Sei. A duplex chain was used for the final drive and a disc replaced the rear drum brake.

The Benelli Sei is one of the most unique six-cylinder motorcycles ever made, and this 1980 Sei 900 is a beautiful low-mileage example. Announced for 1978, the 900 Sei was a completely restyled machine, with a larger bore of 60 mm bore and a longer stroke of 53.4 mm stroke to give 906 cc. By this stage the Benelli had not one, but two opponents in the six-cylinder category; the Honda CBX, with four valves per cylinder and double overhead camshaft, and the Z1300 Kawasaki, an 1983 Benelli 900 Sei Claimed power: 80hp @ 8,400rpm Top speed: 120mph (period test) Engine: 905.91cc air-cooled SOHC inline six, 60mm x 53.4mm bore and stroke, 9.53:1 compression ratio A rider who chooses a motor cycle on the strength of road test data alone is unlikely to be impressed by the Benelli 900 Sei. But mere reference to figures will not convey the full impression - that the Italian six handles far better than many Japanese multis, sticks to the road like flies to The Benelli 750 Sei was the first production 6-cylinder motorcycle, and the design emphasized its uniqueness.

The next and last instalment of this Benelli rebuild will introduce a modern take on cylinder head tuning, making this 900 Sei a Honda’s CBX 1000 trouncer among these classic 1970/80s six-cylinder superbikes.
